Chapter 25 - The Foundation of Hope

The massive success of the firm provided me with resources I had never dared to dream of, but I knew that financial wealth was meaningless if it wasn't used to pull others out of the dark. On a quiet Tuesday morning, I called an emergency meeting with Sarah, Luke, and Mark in the main conference room of the studio.
"I want to start a charitable foundation," I announced, laying a beautifully designed prospectus on the glass table.
Luke picked it up, adjusting his glasses as he read the cover.
"The Vanguard Women’s Initiative," Luke read aloud, looking up with intense interest. "What exactly is the mission, Clara?"
"When I left James, I was incredibly lucky," I explained, leaning forward passionately. "I had a marketable skill, I had Sarah to help me secure my first clients, and I had you two to protect me legally and physically. But thousands of women are trapped in abusive marriages simply because they have absolutely zero financial independence. Their husbands control the accounts, the credit, and the assets."
Mark nodded grimly. "Financial abuse is the invisible chain."
"Exactly," I agreed. "The Vanguard Initiative will be a fully funded nonprofit organization. We will provide emergency micro-grants for women fleeing domestic violence. We will cover security deposits for safe apartments, retainers for aggressive divorce attorneys, and provide career retraining scholarships."
Sarah stared at me, her eyes wide with immense pride. "Clara, this is going to change lives. It is going to save lives."
"I want you on the board of directors, Sarah," I said, turning to Luke and Mark. "And I want you both to handle the legal and physical security protocols for the applicants. I am funding the initial million-dollar endowment out of my personal equity this afternoon."

"I am in," Mark said without a second of hesitation.
"Me too," Luke smiled, closing the prospectus. "Let's go break some chains."
