Chapter 21 - The Grand Entrance

|

The ballroom of the Paradise Valley resort was an absolute masterpiece of opulent design, filled with massive crystal chandeliers, soaring floral arrangements, and the elite high society of Arizona. The air hummed with the sound of string quartets and the clinking of expensive champagne glasses.

I stood in the grand foyer, taking a deep, centering breath. I wore a custom-designed, floor-length emerald green silk gown that clung perfectly to my frame, radiating a quiet, dangerous elegance.

Luke stood on my right, wearing a classic black tuxedo, looking incredibly distinguished. Mark stood on my left, his broad shoulders filling out a sharp midnight-blue suit, his eyes constantly scanning the room with professional precision.

"Are you ready for this?" Luke asked softly, offering me his arm.

"I have never been more ready for anything in my entire life," I answered, slipping my hand through his arm and linking my other arm with Mark.

We walked through the massive double doors and descended the grand staircase into the main ballroom. The reaction was immediate and palpable. Heads turned, conversations paused, and whispers rippled through the crowd. I was no longer the quiet, subdued wife of an arrogant developer. I was Clara Vance, the breakout star of the local design world, flanked by two immensely powerful men.

We navigated the crowd with flawless grace. I spoke with influential architects, shook hands with potential clients, and accepted profound compliments on the Arcadia project with effortless charm.

"He is staring at you," Mark murmured discreetly, leaning down to whisper in my ear. "Three o'clock. By the ice sculpture."

I didn't flinch. I slowly turned my head, locking eyes with James across the crowded room. He looked older, his face tight with barely concealed rage and profound shock. The woman he had tried to destroy was currently owning the very room he considered his kingdom. I held his gaze for three long seconds, offered a chilling, perfectly polite smile, and deliberately turned my back on him.
