Chapter 13 - The Irrevocable Trust

|

The following Monday, I met Luke for lunch at a high-end bistro in Old Town. The restaurant was bustling with local business owners and affluent tourists, but we secured a quiet booth in the back. Luke looked incredibly sharp in his navy blue suit, radiating the quiet authority that had recently earned him an equity partnership at his prestigious law firm.

He handed me a thick, cream-colored envelope as soon as the waiter poured our sparkling water.

"What is this?" I asked, looking at the heavy wax seal.

"That is the final, court-certified documentation for the Maya Vance Irrevocable Educational Trust," Luke smiled, leaning back against the leather booth. "The judge signed off on it this morning. James attempted to file a motion to reduce his mandatory contributions, claiming financial hardship."

"And let me guess," I said, slicing into my grilled chicken salad. "The judge didn't buy it?"

"The judge practically laughed him out of the courtroom," Luke confirmed, his eyes gleaming with professional satisfaction. "I presented the forensic accounting reports showing his hidden assets and the massive expenditures he’s been making on luxury cars. The judge not only denied his motion but ordered him to pay my legal fees for wasting the court's time."

I let out a long, relieved breath, setting my fork down.

"So, the trust is fully funded and entirely out of his reach?" I asked, needing absolute confirmation.

"It is impenetrable," Luke promised. "Maya's education, all the way through a master's degree, is completely secured. He cannot touch a single dime of that money, and he cannot use it as leverage against you ever again."

"I don't know how to thank you, Luke," I murmured, feeling a profound wave of gratitude wash over me.

"You thank me by continuing to build your empire, Clara," Luke said softly. "You thank me by never, ever letting that man make you feel small again."
