Chapter 19 - The Fall of the Architect

The tactical officers swept down from the terrace, surrounding Julian and his four bodyguards before they could even draw their weapons.
Julian dropped his silver cane, his hands trembling as a federal agent forced him onto his knees on the very grass where my son had been playing hours before.
"You can't do this!" Julian snarled, his voice breaking into a hysterical rage. "I am a Swiss citizen! I have diplomatic immunity!"
"You had diplomatic immunity," Marcus Vance said smoothly, walking out onto the terrace holding a certified federal warrant. "Until the Department of Justice unsealed your indictment for international child trafficking, wire fraud, and funding corporate sabotage."
Julian looked up at me, his icy grey eyes filled with pure, murderous hatred. "You ruined thirty years of planning, you wretched woman!"
"You tortured a four-year-old child for money, Julian," I said, looking down at him with absolute disgust. "You deserve far worse than a prison cell."
As the federal agents led Julian away in heavy handcuffs, loading him into the Coast Guard cutter, the dark shadow that had loomed over my family for decades finally vanished into the ocean breeze.
That evening, the sun set over Savannah in brilliant shades of gold, purple, and crimson.
I sat on the wooden dock, my legs dangling over the water, holding Liam in my lap. He was wrapped in a soft warm blanket, resting his head against my shoulder, watching the gentle waves lap against the pilings.
"Mommy?" Liam asked softly, pointing at a sailboat gliding across the horizon.
"Yes, my sweet boy?"
"Are the bad people gone forever now?"
I kissed the top of his soft, clean hair, holding him close against my heart. "Yes, Liam. They are gone. Nobody will ever hurt you again."
