Chapter 17 - The Confrontation at Sea

|
The following morning, a massive luxury yacht dropped anchor two miles off the coast of my Savannah estate.
It was named The Sovereign, flying a Cayman Islands flag.
At noon, a sleek black speed boat detached from the yacht and cut through the waves toward my private dock. Through my high-powered binoculars, I watched a tall man dressed in a white linen suit step onto the wooden pier. He walked with a heavy silver-topped cane, surrounded by four armed bodyguards.
He didn't hide. He didn't sneak. He walked directly up the manicured lawn toward my veranda.
I didn't run inside. I stood on the terrace, my hands resting calmly on the stone balustrade, my security team standing behind the glass doors, ready to open fire at my command.
Julian Vance stopped ten feet away. Up close, his facial structure was a haunting echo of my late father's, but his eyes were entirely cold, devoid of humanity.
"Madeline," Julian said, his voice smooth and melodious, like velvet covering steel. "You have your father's stubborn posture. I admire that."
"You're trespassing on private property, Julian," I said, my tone flat and unyielding. "Leave now before my guards end your visit."
Julian let out a soft, amused laugh. "Your guards are very impressive, my dear. But they can't protect you from the legal storm that is about to erase your foundation."
"I hold eighty percent of the voting shares in Vance International," I stated firmly. "You have no standing."
"I hold the original covenant signed by your father in 1998," Julian replied, pulling a yellowed parchment document from his breast pocket. "A covenant that dictates if the male bloodline of the Vance family is subjected to maternal isolation, fifty-one percent of the trust automatically reverts to the European branch."

My blood ran ice-cold. "What did you say?"
"Noelle and Jeffrey didn't abuse Liam out of sheer cruelty, Madeline," Julian smiled, a chillingly triumphant look in his eyes. "They were following my explicit instructions. They created the exact conditions of 'maternal abandonment' while you were in London to trigger the trust clause."
