Chapter 15 - Stripped of Everything

Rachel pulled out a blue leather folder from her briefcase and opened it.
"I have here the prenuptial agreement signed by Mark Mercer eleven years ago," Rachel announced to the room. "Section Four explicitly states that all shares of Whitmore Development, all real estate held under the Whitmore Family Trust, and all intellectual property remain the exclusive, separate property of Claire Whitmore."
Mark blinked rapidly. "That... that agreement expired after ten years!"
"Read Clause 12B, Mark," Rachel countered, a small, cold smile touching her lips. "The agreement automatically renews in perpetuity unless dissolved by mutual written consent. Which you never requested."
Mark stumbled backward, collapsing into his chair.
"As eighty-two percent controlling shareholder of Whitmore Development," I declared into the microphone, "I formally move to terminate Mark Mercer as Chief Operating Officer for cause, effective immediately, with zero severance."
"I second the motion!" Gerald Price shouted instantly.
"All in favor?" Gerald called out.
Every single board member in the room raised their hand without a second of hesitation.
"Motion passed unanimously," Gerald announced. "Security, remove this trash from our building!"

"Wait!" Mark pleaded, scrambling to his feet as two heavy corporate security officers entered the boardroom. "Claire, please! We have a baby! Think of Lily!"
"I am thinking of Lily," I said calmly. "Which is why I am removing her father from our lives entirely. You own your personal clothes, Mark. Except for that suit you're wearing right now—the company card paid for it, and we will be seeking full civil restitution."
