Chapter 18 - The Safe Haven Fund

The encounter at the gala solidified a new resolve within me. Firing corrupt executives and changing the company name wasn't enough. I needed to proactively dismantle the systems that allowed men like Grant to thrive in the shadows.
The next morning, I called a massive, company-wide meeting in the main lobby of our headquarters. Hundreds of employees gathered, looking slightly nervous.
"When I took over this company," I began, my voice amplified by a microphone, "I promised transparency. Today, I am announcing the creation of the Safe Haven Fund."
I looked around at the faces of my staff. "This is a permanent, two-million-dollar internal endowment. If any employee of this firm is experiencing domestic violence, you have immediate, confidential access to these funds. It will cover legal fees, relocation costs, emergency housing, and paid leave. No questions asked. No judgment. You do not have to choose between your paycheck and your life."
The lobby was completely silent for a moment. Then, a woman in the accounting department started clapping. Slowly, the applause grew until the entire room was giving a standing ovation.

Later that week, a young administrative assistant came into my office, her hands shaking. She quietly asked for the paperwork to access the fund. I didn't ask her for details. I just signed the approval, handed her the check, and told her to be safe.
That single signature felt infinitely more powerful than any multi-million dollar real estate deal I had ever closed.
