Chapter 36 - St. Claire's Stands Strong

|

We drove Maya to St. Claire’s Academy the following morning, the tension inside the car thick enough to cut with a knife. Maya had read the article. She had cried in her room for an hour, devastated that her hard work was being dismissed as the product of dirty money. But as we pulled up to the school gates, she wiped her tears, lifted her chin, and stepped out of the car with remarkable bravery.

I walked her into the main administrative office, demanding an immediate meeting with Principal Higgins.

"We have seen the article," Principal Higgins said before I even had a chance to speak. She was a stern, incredibly protective woman who had guided Maya through her darkest days. "It is an absolute disgrace, and it is entirely false."

"I am worried about the other students," I admitted, gripping the edge of the wooden desk. "Teenagers can be cruel. If they believe this narrative, they might turn against her."

Principal Higgins offered a warm, reassuring smile. "You severely underestimate the empathy of our student body. Maya is a beloved member of this community. She is a leader in the art club, a tutor, and a friend. We do not abandon our own."

The bell rang for the morning assembly. Principal Higgins led us into the grand auditorium, where the entire high school was gathered.

Instead of the usual morning announcements, the student council president took the microphone.

"Many of you have seen a malicious article circulating online regarding one of our own," the student president announced, her voice echoing clearly across the silent room. "We want to make it absolutely clear that St. Claire’s Academy stands unequivocally with Maya. Her talent is undeniable, her character is flawless, and we will not allow anonymous bullies to tear down her achievements."

The entire auditorium erupted into a massive, deafening standing ovation. Hundreds of students turned toward Maya, clapping and cheering with genuine, overwhelming support.

Maya covered her mouth, tears of joy streaming down her face. She wasn't an outcast. She was deeply loved, and no smear campaign could ever change that.
