Months passed.

The penthouse changed.

It no longer felt like a prison.

It became a home again.

Lily returned to school.

She started making friends.

She laughed again.

One evening, I found her sitting on the balcony.

The same place where she used to hide.

“You okay?”

She smiled.

“Yeah.”

I sat beside her.

After a long silence, she said:

“Dad?”

“Yes?”

“Thank you for coming home early.”

I looked at her.

And I understood.

Those words meant more than anything.
