Chapter 15

At six o'clock in the morning, while Lily continued to rest under the watchful eyes of the hospital staff and a social worker, I drove back to the house. I did not go alone. I had called my lead corporate attorney, a ruthless man named Harrison, and two heavily armed private security contractors. They met me in the driveway as the sun was just beginning to rise over the manicured lawns of the neighborhood.

"The divorce papers are drafted, and the temporary restraining order was signed by a judge an hour ago," Harrison said, handing me a thick manila envelope. "She has absolutely no legal right to remain on this property."

I nodded, unlocking the front door and pushing it open. The house was quiet and perfectly pristine. I marched directly up the grand staircase to the master bedroom, the security guards flanking me silently.

Victoria was sound asleep in the center of the massive king-sized bed, wearing an expensive silk nightgown, looking like a picture of utter innocence. I walked over to the nightstand and slammed the heavy manila envelope down on the mahogany wood with a deafening crack.

Victoria gasped, bolting upright in bed, her eyes wide with sleep and sudden shock. "What are you doing here? You're in Chicago!"

"Pack your bags," I commanded, my voice colder than the basement she had locked my daughter in. "You have exactly fifteen minutes to gather your personal clothing and walk out the front door. If you are not gone by the time the clock strikes six-thirty, these gentlemen will physically drag you out onto the street."

Victoria looked at the towering security guards, then back at me, her face twisting into a mask of pure, ugly outrage. "You can't do this! I am your wife! This is my house!"

"You are a monster," I whispered, leaning incredibly close to her face. "And you will never look at my daughter again."
