Chapter 16 - The New Order

|

The other four bosses didn't move to help Morretti. They watched in silent approval as Dominic established total dominance.

"The Commission needs restructuring," Dominic announced, stepping back and letting Morretti groan on the floor. He looked at the remaining bosses. "I am taking Morretti’s seat at the head of this table. I am taking his territories as compensation for this insult. And if any of you ever question my family again, my wife will audit your entire lives, and I will execute the physical consequences. Are we clear?"

The bosses looked at Clara, their eyes filled with a new, profound terror. They nodded in unison.

"Crystal clear, Dominic," one of them said respectfully.

"Good," Dominic said, adjusting his suit jacket. He offered his arm to Clara. "Let's go home, darling."

They walked out of the subterranean vault, leaving the chaos behind them.

When they got into the back of the armored Maybach, Clara let out a long, shaky breath, her adrenaline finally crashing.

"I can't believe that actually worked," Clara laughed, leaning her head against the leather seat.

"I never doubted you for a second," Dominic smiled, pouring two glasses of champagne. He handed one to her. "To the Queen of Chicago. Long may she reign."

"To us," Clara corrected, clinking her glass against his.

They drank the champagne, the city lights blurring past the tinted windows. The war was officially over. Dominic was no longer just a boss; he was the undisputed king of the syndicate, and Clara was his equal in every sense of the word.

When they returned to the estate, the staff treated her with a new level of absolute reverence. She wasn't just the boss's wife anymore. She had saved the empire.

They walked up to the master suite. Dominic pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply, the passion fueled by the adrenaline of their victory.

"No more contracts," Dominic murmured against her lips. "No more hiding."

"Just us," Clara whispered, pulling him closer.

For the first time in her life, Clara didn't feel the need to shrink herself to fit into the world. She took up exactly the amount of space she deserved, and the man she loved worshipped every inch of it.

But as they fell into bed, completely consumed by each other, Clara’s encrypted phone buzzed on the nightstand.
