Chapter 10 - The Stolen Ledger

They retreated to an old, abandoned warehouse on the South Side—a location off the books, owned by a shell company Clara had set up herself a year ago.
While Dominic coordinated the war effort, Clara refused to sit idle. She opened her laptop, connecting to a secure, encrypted server.
"If Victoria sold me out to the Morettis, there has to be a financial trail," Clara muttered to herself, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
She hacked into the offshore accounts of the Montgomery family. It took her three hours of relentless coding and decrypting, but she found it.
"Dominic," Clara called out.
He walked over, his sleeves rolled up, blood still staining his shirt. "What did you find?"
"Victoria didn't just sell out my mother's location," Clara explained, pointing to the screen. "She's been funneling money from your own capos. Falcone. The man you humiliated in the boardroom. He’s been washing money through Victoria’s European accounts and using it to fund the Morettis."
Dominic’s eyes widened in realization. "Falcone is a traitor. He used Victoria’s grudge against you as a smokescreen to stage a coup."
"They're working together," Clara confirmed. "And I know exactly where they are right now. Victoria just authorized a massive wire transfer to a private airfield in Gary, Indiana. She's trying to flee the country."
"Not tonight," Dominic growled.
He loaded a fresh magazine into his pistol and looked at his men. "We're going to Indiana. Clara, stay here with the rear guard."
"No," Clara said, standing up and closing her laptop. "She dragged me into this. She threatened my mother. I'm coming with you."
Dominic looked at her, seeing the fierce, unyielding determination in her eyes. He didn't argue. He handed her a bulletproof vest.
"Put this on. You stay behind me at all times."
May you like
"Deal," Clara said.
They loaded into the SUVs, heading into the darkness to confront the ghosts of Dominic’s past.
