Chapter 12 - The Queen's Wrath

|

Clara stepped forward, the cold night wind whipping her hair around her face. She looked at the woman who had spent years making other people feel small. Victoria looked pathetic, shivering in her expensive coat.

"You threw wine on my dress," Clara stated calmly.

"I'm sorry!" Victoria sobbed. "I was jealous! I wanted my life back!"

"You threatened my mother," Clara continued, her voice turning to ice. "You put a target on a defenseless woman with dementia because you couldn't handle the fact that Dominic chose me over you."

"Please, Clara, I'll give you everything!" Victoria pleaded, dropping to her knees on the cold tarmac. "I have millions in offshore accounts! I'll transfer it all to you right now! Just let me live!"

Clara looked down at her. "I already have your money, Victoria. I hacked your accounts three hours ago and transferred every single cent to a series of untraceable shell companies that fund domestic violence shelters across the Midwest. You are completely bankrupt."

Victoria’s jaw dropped. "You... you stole my money?"

"I reallocated it to women who actually need protection," Clara corrected smoothly. "You have no money. You have no allies. You have no power. You are exactly what you tried to make me feel like in that ballroom. You are nothing."

Dominic stepped up beside Clara, placing a heavy hand on her shoulder. He looked down at his ex-fiancée with absolute disgust.

"The penalty for treason against the Russo family is death," Dominic said.

Victoria squeezed her eyes shut, sobbing hysterically.

"But my wife is merciful," Dominic continued. "You are going to get on a commercial flight to a country of our choosing. You will work a minimum-wage job. You will be monitored 24/7 by my men. If you ever contact anyone from your old life, if you ever try to return to the States, you will die."

"Yes! Yes, thank you!" Victoria wept, kissing the ground.

Clara turned away in disgust. "Get her out of my sight."

Guards dragged Victoria away, throwing her into the back of an SUV.

Dominic looked at Clara, a slow, proud smile spreading across his face. "Remind me never to let you audit my personal bank accounts."

"You have nothing to hide from me," Clara smiled back.

"Never again," Dominic promised, kissing her under the harsh airfield lights.
