Chapter 18 - The Fall of Whitfield

As the federal agents paraded Trevor through the center of the ballroom, the crowd parted in absolute silence.
Trevor looked around frantically, searching for anyone who might offer help.
He saw his sister Dana standing by the entrance, her arms folded tightly across her chest, staring at him with cold detachment. He saw his wealthy investors turning their backs to avoid being caught in the news photos.
Finally, his eyes landed on Margot.
She stood near the grand staircase, looking down at him with quiet composure.
"Margot!" Trevor begged, his voice cracking as the agents pushed him toward the doors. "Please! Tell them I didn't mean to! Tell them about the permit packet! You can fix this!"
Margot looked at the man who had slapped her, who had tried to starve her out, who had thought her life was built for his heavy work.

She simply raised her glass of sparkling water, took a small sip, and turned her back on him completely.
