Margot turned away from Trevor, completely ignoring his existence as she stepped toward the primary table of city inspectors and lead investors.
"Gentlemen," Margot said, her voice carrying clearly across the silent circle. "Before you sign the secondary bridge funding agreements tonight, I suggest you open the local municipal portal on your phones."
The lead city inspector pulled out his device, tapping the screen rapidly.
"What is it, Margot?" the inspector asked, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
"An emergency structural hold was placed on the East Bank site thirty minutes ago," Margot explained calmly. "The state environmental division received independent soil testing logs proving that the concrete footings installed last week do not meet minimum density requirements."
The room erupted into quiet panic.
"That's a lie!" Trevor shouted from behind her, his voice cracking with hysteria. "The footings were certified by Voss Engineering!"
"Voss Engineering isn't a certified firm," Margot replied without turning around. "It’s a shell corporation registered to a postal box in Panama. Owned entirely by Briana Voss."

Briana gasped, dropping her champagne glass. It shattered against the marble floor, spraying golden liquid and crystal shards across the hem of her emerald dress.
"Check the filing, gentlemen," Margot added coolly. "Page forty-two."
