Chapter 12 - Uninvited Royalty

"Margot," Trevor said, forcing a nervous, high-pitched chuckle as she stopped three feet in front of him. "You have immense nerve showing your face here after what you did to our firm's files."

Margot did not raise her voice. She didn't glare. She simply looked at him with cool, detached disinterest.

"Hello, Trevor," Margot said softly. "Hello, Briana."

Briana stepped forward, her green dress rustling against the floor, her voice sharp as glass. "Security is on their way, Margot. You are trespassing on private property."

"This event is registered under the East Bank Development Corporation's public charter," Margot replied, tapping the screen of her silver tablet once. "Which means any certified shareholder has the legal right to attend. And as of four o'clock this afternoon..."

She turned the tablet screen toward Trevor.

"...I own twenty-two percent of the Class-A voting stock."

Trevor’s face turned bright red. "That’s impossible! Those shares belong to my uncle!"

"Your uncle owed Elias Carver four million dollars," Margot said smoothly. "He signed over his equity equity blocks an hour ago to settle his account."

Trevor took a sharp step toward her, his fists clenching at his sides. "You little snake—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Elias Carver’s heavy voice echoed softly from behind Margot’s shoulder.

"Finish that sentence, Trevor," Elias said, stepping forward until his massive frame blocked the light behind Margot. "Please. I'd love to hear how it ends."

Trevor stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes darting frantically from Elias's stony face down to the heavy signet ring on Elias's right hand.

He swallowed hard, unable to speak.
