Chapter 16 - The Ticking Ledger

|

Back in the main ballroom, the atmosphere had completely turned.

The emergency bridge financing meeting was dead. Two major investors were shouting into their cell phones, ordering their legal teams to file immediate asset freezes against Whitfield Development.

Margot walked back onto the main floor, flanked by Elias and his team.

The lead city inspector walked straight up to Margot, carrying a thick yellow folder.

"Margot," the inspector said, his tone filled with deep respect. "The state has officially suspended Trevor’s primary developer license. Under municipal code, as the primary Class-A shareholder with technical credentials, you have seventy-two hours to assume emergency management of the site."

"I’m ready to take over tonight," Margot said without hesitation.

"What about the nine-million-dollar debt?" the inspector asked nervously, glancing at Elias Carver standing behind her.

Margot turned to Elias.

"Mr. Carver’s firm will be awarded the primary steel supply and logistics contracts for the revised waterfront plan," Margot announced clearly. "Subject to standard municipal oversight."

Elias looked at her, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips. He bowed his head slightly.

"An acceptable agreement, Miss Carver," Elias said.
