Chapter 10

Before Daniel could lunge forward or start screaming more obscenities, two heavy-set corporate security guards stepped out of the elevator bay, grabbing him firmly by both arms.

“Let go of me! Do you know who I am? I’m the COO of—wait, I was the COO of my own life!” Daniel yelled, struggling clumsily against their grip as they hoisted him off his feet. “Elena, you cold-hearted bitch! You can’t do this to me!”

“Actually, she can, sir. Now move along,” the head security guard growled, dragging a kicking and thrashing Daniel backward toward the elevator.

The elevator doors opened, swallowing him up as his angry shouts faded down the shaft.

I stood completely composed, smoothing down the lapels of my blazer. Several colleagues were staring at me with wide eyes, whispering among themselves. Instead of feeling embarrassed, I walked right over to Marcus, who had stepped out of his office to witness the entire spectacle.

“I apologize for the disruption, Marcus,” I said smoothly. “My divorce proceedings are... getting a bit dramatic.”

Marcus let out a low whistle, a grin spreading across his face. “Drama? Elena, that was absolute cinema. Honestly, the way you handled that loser was pure gold. If you ever need a referral for a shark of a divorce lawyer, let me know. I know a guy who eats men like that for breakfast.”

“I’ve already hired him, Marcus,” I smiled. “And he’s currently dismantling what’s left of Daniel’s financial illusion.”

That evening, my lawyer called with phenomenal news: during the preliminary financial audit for the divorce filing, they discovered that Daniel hadn't just been sleeping in—he had secretly funneled over fifteen thousand dollars from my business expense accounts into a personal crypto wallet without my consent. That wasn't just grounds for a messy divorce; it was criminal embezzlement.
