Chapter 17 - The Ultimatum

Armed with the undeniable, irrefutable digital proof of Senator Sterling’s illegal cyberattack, the dynamic of the war instantly and violently shifted. We were no longer fighting a defensive battle against a political titan; we were holding a loaded gun directly to his career, his freedom, and his entire legacy.

I did not file the evidence with the authorities. Bureaucracy was too slow, and a Senator with his level of influence could easily manipulate a federal investigation to protect himself. I needed to execute him in the court of public opinion and political leverage.

I booked a private, highly secure conference room in a neutral luxury hotel in Washington D.C. I invited Senator Sterling to a meeting under the guise of negotiating a quiet, confidential divorce settlement for Claire.

He arrived flanked by two massive private security contractors and his slick, aggressive Chief of Staff. The Senator wore a tailored suit, projecting an aura of absolute, arrogant invincibility.

"Ms. Miller," the Senator sneered, sitting across the heavy mahogany table from me. "I applaud your little foundation’s efforts, but you have vastly overstepped your jurisdiction. You will surrender my wife to my custody immediately, and in exchange, I will generously decide not to completely destroy your organization."

I didn't blink. I calmly reached into my briefcase and slid a thick, heavily encrypted tablet across the table.

"Press play, Senator," I commanded softly.

He frowned, tapping the screen. The tablet instantly displayed the complex, undeniable digital forensic logs tracing the illegal cyberattack directly back to his campaign financier, alongside sworn affidavits from three independent cybersecurity firms verifying the data.

The blood instantly drained from the Senator's face. The arrogant sneer shattered, replaced by sheer, unadulterated panic.

"If you do not sign a full, uncontested divorce granting Claire total custody and absolute financial independence within the next sixty seconds," I said, my voice echoing with terrifying, absolute finality, "I will simultaneously broadcast this evidence to the FBI, the Senate Ethics Committee, and every major news network in the country. You will not only lose your seat; you will spend the next decade in a federal penitentiary for cyber-terrorism."

The Senator stared at the tablet, his political empire instantly burning to ash. He reached for his pen.
