Our Los Angeles chapter took in a woman named Claire Sterling. She was the wife of Senator Thomas Sterling, a highly influential, incredibly powerful politician who had built his entire career on a platform of family values and moral integrity. Behind closed doors, he was a monster. He used his immense political leverage, his connections to local law enforcement, and his vast family wealth to keep Claire in a state of absolute, terrified submission.
"This is radioactive, Sarah," Jessica warned, pacing my office in Newport as we reviewed the intake files. "If we file a civil suit against a sitting U.S. Senator for domestic abuse and financial manipulation, he will unleash the entire federal apparatus against us. He can trigger IRS audits on the foundation, he can use the media to destroy our credibility, and he has the police in his pocket."
"He is a man, Jessica, not a god," I stated firmly, looking at the photographs of Claire’s severe bruising. "If we refuse to help her because her husband holds political office, we compromise the entire foundational ethos of the Two-Finger Shield. We do not back down from power. We break it."
Senator Sterling’s retaliation was instantaneous and brutal.
Within forty-eight hours of Claire’s extraction, the foundation was hit with a massive, highly coordinated cyberattack. The Senator’s operatives didn't try to hack our financial ledgers; they targeted our most sensitive, classified databases—the encrypted locations of our national safe houses.

"They are trying to unmask the sanctuaries," Marcus shouted, bursting into the operations room as alarms blared across the digital monitors. "If they breach the primary firewall, the physical locations of every woman we are protecting will be leaked to the dark web. The Senator is trying to compromise our entire network to force us to surrender Claire."
"Burn the connection!" I commanded, my heart hammering in my chest. "Sever the external servers immediately! We fight this in the dark."
