Chapter 10 - The Phantom Assets

The morning after Evelyn’s successful extraction, the foundation transitioned immediately from defense to offense. Providing a safe bed and warm meals was only the first step; true freedom required complete financial independence. If we didn't sever Richard Cross’s financial control, he would inevitably use the court system to slowly bleed Evelyn dry until she was forced to return to him out of sheer desperation.
I sat in the secure operations room with Elena, our brilliant forensic accountant. The digital screens covering the walls were filled with incredibly complex financial webs, shell companies, and offshore banking logs.
"Richard is aggressive, but he isn't sloppy," Elena noted, rapidly typing commands into her encrypted terminal. "He anticipated Evelyn might try to leave. Six months ago, he began systematically siphoning their joint marital assets into a blind trust located in the Cayman Islands. On paper, Evelyn has absolutely zero liquid capital. She can't even afford to hire a standard divorce attorney."
"That’s exactly why the Two-Finger Shield exists," I replied, my eyes scanning the cascading streams of financial data. "We aren't a standard law firm. We have an unlimited war chest, and we don't bill by the hour. How do we crack the Cayman trust?"
"We can't attack it directly without a federal subpoena, which will take months," Elena explained, a sharp, calculated smile touching her lips. "But we can attack the architecture that supports it. Richard is using a boutique financial firm in New York to route the funds. If we can prove that the firm knowingly facilitated the illegal concealment of marital assets, we can threaten them with a massive federal RICO lawsuit. They will turn on Richard instantly to save their own licenses."

"Do it," I commanded, feeling the adrenaline of the hunt surging through my veins. "Draft the injunctions. Send our federal lawyers to the New York firm tomorrow morning. I want Richard Cross to wake up and realize that the impenetrable financial fortress he built to imprison his wife has just been completely surrounded."
I walked out of the operations room, looking at the framed photograph of Emma on my desk. David had tried to use money to destroy me, and he had failed. I was going to ensure Richard met the exact same fate.
