Chapter 7 - The Cornered Animal’s Counterattack|

Patricia Vale was not the kind of woman who went down without a fight. By three o'clock that afternoon, social media exploded.

She had published a sprawling, tear-jerking essay on Facebook and Instagram, accompanied by a candid, blurry photograph of Emily sobbing inside my SUV on the night of the baby shower.

The post was a masterpiece of manipulative performance art:

“I am writing this with a broken heart. My sweet son Brandon is completely devastated. His mother-in-law—a bitter, controlling woman—has forced my heavily pregnant daughter-in-law to abandon her marital home over a minor family disagreement. She is using her vast wealth to destroy a young family. Please pray for my son as we fight to bring his wife and child home!”

Within four hours, the post accumulated over fifty thousand shares. Hundreds of vile comments flooded the internet, branding me as a "monster mother-in-law" and painting Emily as an "ungrateful, spoiled runaway wife."

“Mom, this is getting terrible,” Emily panicked, her hands shaking as she read the brutal comments on her tablet. “People are posting our home address online! We need to release a public statement and explain what really happened!”

I calmly reached over, took the tablet from her hands, and placed it face down on the kitchen counter.

“No public statements,” I said firmly.

“But Mom! They’re ruining our names!”

“An explanation right now will only feed the mob,” I replied smoothly. “Patricia wants us to panic and engage in a messy internet food fight. Let her play the grieving mother-in-law. Let her soak in the attention.”

“How can you be so calm?” Emily cried out.

“Because Patricia doesn't realize that by posting that photo of you taken inside my car, she just provided written proof that she was actively following us,” I smiled coldly. “She just handed our legal team direct evidence of stalking and harassment in violation of her temporary restraining order.”

I picked up my phone and speed-dialed my public relations team and head of security.

“Release File Number One,” I instructed into the receiver. “It’s time to show the world who Brandon Vale really is.”
