Chapter 11 - Blocking the Hospital Door|

I strode directly into Patricia’s path, stepping firmly into her line of sight and blocking her access to the delivery unit.

“What are you doing here?” I hissed, keeping my voice low and dangerous. “There is an active restraining order against you. You are committing a felony just by standing in this building.”

Patricia let out a manic, mocking laugh, her hands twitching at her sides.

“You think a stupid piece of paper can keep me away from my family’s child?” she spat, stepping right into my personal space. “Brandon’s lawyer filed an emergency parental rights petition from his jail cell two hours ago! That baby carries the Vale name, Margaret! She is my family's only remaining asset, and you will not keep her from us!”

It was sickening, but entirely predictable. Patricia didn't care about Emily's health or the baby's survival. She wanted to use the newborn infant as a legal hostage to force a financial settlement out of our family.

“You won't take a single step through those doors,” I said, standing tall and unyielding.

“Get out of my way, you miserable bitch!” Patricia roared, raising her hands to shove me out of the hallway.

Before her fingers could touch my jacket, two towering men in charcoal suits stepped out from the adjacent waiting room. They were elite private security operatives I had put on payroll the previous evening. They seized Patricia by both arms, pinning her shoulders back with effortless efficiency.

“Let go of me! Do you know who I am? I am Patricia Vale!” she shrieked, kicking her heels against the polished tile floor.

The hospital’s head of security, accompanied by two uniformed officers, came running down the corridor.

“Ma'am, you are trespassing and creating a disturbance in a restricted medical facility,” the lead security officer announced sternly. “You need to leave right now, or you will be placed under arrest.”

As the officers and my bodyguards forcibly dragged Patricia toward the glass exit doors, she turned her head back toward me, her face contorted in pure hatred.

“This isn't over, Margaret!” she screamed, her voice echoing down the corridor until the doors slid shut. “We will take everything from you!”

I turned my back on her threats and stared fixedly at the red light glowing above the delivery room door, praying for a miracle.
