Chapter 20 - THE THIRD HEIRNobody spoke.

Nobody could.

The DNA report remained on the screen.

Three names.

Three children.

Three bloodlines.

My mind couldn't process it.

Adrian stepped closer.

"No..."

For the first time, he looked terrified.

"You knew?"

I looked at him.

"What?"

He didn't answer.

His eyes stayed locked on the screen.

The third name.

Matteo noticed.

"Adrian..."

Adrian shook his head slowly.

"I thought she was dead."

My heart raced.

"Who?"

The screen zoomed in.

The final name became visible.

Evelyn Whitmore.

A girl.

A sister.

A child erased from history.

I looked around.

"Another sibling?"

My grandfather's voice echoed.

"Every empire needs a successor."

The screen changed.

Showing three childhood photographs.

Mine.

Adrian's.

And hers.

"But only one was chosen."

The video showed a woman carrying a baby away from the Whitmore estate.

My mother.

A baby in her arms.

The baby was not me.

My breathing stopped.

Adrian whispered:

"She saved her too..."

The truth became clear.

My mother didn't only hide Adrian.

She hid another child.

Three children.

Three secrets.

Three lives destroyed by the same family.

Then the mansion doors opened.

Slowly.

Everyone turned.

A woman stood there.

Older.

Holding the same family ring.

Her eyes looked exactly like mine.

She stepped into the room.

"I've been waiting for this moment."

Nobody moved.

I stared at her.

"Who are you?"

She looked at me.

A single tear fell.

"I'm the daughter your mother sacrificed everything to protect."

Silence.

Then she whispered:

"And I'm the reason your father never came home."

My heart stopped.

The woman looked toward the screen.

Toward the hidden cameras.

Then back at me.

"Because I know who really killed him."

A pause.

Her eyes hardened.

"And it wasn't Lorenzo."

The entire room froze.

She stepped closer.

"The person who murdered your father..."

She looked directly at Matteo.

"...is standing right beside you."

Matteo's face changed.

Everyone turned.

And for the first time...

May you like

The man I trusted most...

Looked afraid.
