Chapter 17 - The Piano Lesson

The aftermath of the press conference left the mansion in a state of suspended animation. The media circus backed off, terrified of Pedro's legal threats, but inside the house, the tension between Pedro and Abigail was thick enough to cut with a knife.
He had declared his love on national television, yet neither of them had spoken of it since.
On Thursday evening, Abigail was in the music room with the boys. The grand Steinway piano, untouched for years, had finally been opened. Abigail was awkwardly picking out the notes of a simple lullaby, trying to teach Jerry how to play.
"Your fingers go here, sweetie," she instructed gently, guiding his small hand over the keys.
"I'm not doing it right," Jerry groaned, frustrated.
"You're doing fine," a deep voice said from the doorway.
Pedro walked into the room. He had taken off his suit jacket and rolled up his sleeves. He looked relaxed, completely devoid of his usual CEO armor.
He walked over and sat on the wide piano bench, squeezing in right next to Abigail. His thigh pressed firmly against hers, sending a shockwave of heat through her body.
"Let me show you," Pedro murmured.
He reached out, placing his large hands over Jerry's, guiding them expertly across the keys. The melody flowed perfectly. Abigail watched his profile, struck by the gentle patience he possessed.
When the lesson was over, the boys scrambled off to the kitchen for a snack, leaving Pedro and Abigail alone on the bench.
The silence in the room was deafening.
Pedro turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto hers. He didn't move his leg away.
"I meant what I said to the press, Abigail," Pedro whispered, the space between them evaporating.

Abigail's breath hitched. "Pedro... we cross this line, there is no going back. I can't just be your employee anymore."
"I don't want you to be my employee," Pedro replied, reaching out to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I want you."
