Chapter 24 - The Upper Floors

Elara watched Leo disappear down the hallway, rushing toward the safety of Julian's location. Once he was out of sight, a cold, terrifying calm settled over her entirely. She turned and headed for the private executive stairwell that led directly to the rooftop helipad.

The stairs were steep and dimly lit. The rhythmic, deafening thwack-thwack-thwack of heavy helicopter rotors vibrated through the concrete walls, indicating that Victoria's escape transport had already touched down.

Elara kicked open the heavy metal door to the roof. The storm was at its absolute peak, freezing rain whipping across the tarmac in violent sheets. In the center of the rooftop, a sleek black helicopter idled loudly, its side door open.

Standing near the edge of the helipad, clutching a waterproof briefcase, was Victoria. She was flanked by three remaining elite bodyguards, her usually immaculate hair whipping wildly in the wind.

"Victoria!" Elara screamed over the roar of the engines and the thunder.

The old woman turned, her eyes narrowing as she spotted her granddaughter standing in the doorway, soaked in rain and armed with a stolen police baton.

"Kill her," Victoria ordered her guards calmly, not even raising her voice.

The three men drew their weapons and stepped forward. But before they could fire, the stairwell door behind Elara burst open, and a heavily armed FBI tactical team poured onto the roof, their assault rifles raised, laser sights painting the chests of Victoria's men in glowing red dots.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!" the lead agent roared over a bullhorn. "Drop them now, or you will be fired upon!"

Victoria’s guards, realizing they were entirely outgunned and outmaneuvered, slowly lowered their weapons and raised their hands in surrender.

Victoria, however, did not flinch. She stared at Elara, her face a mask of absolute, venomous hatred. The empire she had built over fifty years, an empire of blood and stolen genetics, was collapsing around her in a spectacular storm of federal raids and public leaks.

"You think you've won?" Victoria sneered, clutching the briefcase tightly to her chest. "You are nothing, Elara. A blip in history."

"No," Elara replied, stepping out into the pouring rain to face the woman who had ruined her life. "I am a mother. And you are finished."
