Chapter 19 - The Mastermind Revealed
The ballroom was absolutely silent except for Daniel's heavy, panicked breathing over the video feed. I looked out at the sea of executives, all of them staring at me with a newfound mixture of awe and terror.
"For years," I said, my voice steady and commanding, "Daniel told the world I was merely the woman behind his success. He was just the salesman. He was right about one thing. I was behind it."
I signaled Marcus, who projected a final, dense legal document onto the screen.
"I designed the security systems. I secured the patents in my own name. I negotiated the international contracts. And," I paused, looking directly at the camera to meet Daniel's eyes, "I retained controlling voting rights through a blind trust that my husband was too arrogant and too lazy to ever read before he signed it."
Daniel slumped back in his plastic jail chair, his face completely pale. The realization hit him like a physical blow. He didn't own the company. He never did.
The board didn't even bother to debate. They voted unanimously to remove Daniel immediately, cancel all of his shares under the extreme criminal misconduct clause, and officially appoint me as Chief Executive Officer. The company's first act was to file a massive lawsuit to recover every single stolen dollar from Vanessa's accounts.
At the criminal trial, there was no honor among thieves. Daniel blamed Vanessa for planning the leak. Vanessa blamed Daniel for executing it. Her brother, Thomas, took the stand and tearfully testified against both of them to secure his plea deal.

Daniel received two consecutive life sentences in a maximum-security prison, with zero possibility of parole. Vanessa received forty-two years. Thomas received twelve.
