Chapter 6 - Four Whispered Words

Daniel was about to spin around and rip my father apart, but I was faster. With the last ounce of my strength, I reached out, grabbing the sleeve of his suit jacket and pulling him close to my face. The pristine white cuff of his shirt was immediately stained with the bright red blood from my hand.

He leaned in close, his eyes wide with frantic panic. "Lena... oh God, Lena..." he whispered.

Through my ragged breaths, through the metallic taste of blood and the blinding pain in my head, I looked straight into his eyes. There was no panic in my gaze, only a freezing, absolute determination. We had prepared for this. We had designed a worst-case scenario, even if I hadn't expected it to be this bloody.

I whispered exactly four words.

"Send the packet now."

Four short words, but they carried the weight of a death sentence.

The look in Daniel's eyes changed instantly. The panic and sorrow vanished, replaced by a cold, ruthless, and decisive edge of a man ready to burn the world to protect his wife. His anger was channeled into action.

He gently placed my hand back on the floor and stood up. There was no shouting. No threats. Daniel acted with the deadly composure of a man holding a loaded gun. He reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone, and dialed a pre-programmed emergency number we had established.

The phone rang once before someone picked up. Daniel didn't greet them, nor did he explain.

He simply said one sentence into the receiver: "She said send it."

Then, he hung up. The gears of justice, of ruin, had officially been set into motion. There was no turning back.
