Chapter 13 - The Weapon of Evidence

The paramedics had just secured a splint on my nose. I pushed their hands away, refusing to lie down on the stretcher. With Daniel's help, I slowly sat up. The pain was excruciating, but my mind was clearer than ever. I looked at the man handcuffed on the floor, the man who called himself my father.

"Yes, after everything you did for me," I said, my voice low and thick, but loud enough for everyone to hear. "You stole my credit before I could even vote. You forged my name to open massive debts. When I was twenty-two, lying in a hospital bed with a severe illness, you used my medical records to collect donations from the church, then spent every single cent on Tyler’s gambling debts."

I paused, drawing a painful breath. "Do you know what you did for me, Frank? The best thing you ever did was teach me how evidence works."

My mother shook her head frantically, her styled hair now a mess. She rushed toward me, falling to her knees. "Lena, good girl, please think of our family! We are your own blood!"

I looked down at her face, painted with tears and running mascara. I looked at the blood-red smile from earlier, now trembling with fear.

"I am thinking of our family," I replied coldly.

My attorney stepped forward, opening a thick folder. "Mrs. Patricia Hale, you are named in the civil action filed tonight for identity theft, conspiracy, and misappropriation of charitable funds. Preservation orders have been sent to your bank and car dealership. You are frozen out of every single cent starting right now."

Hearing this, she collapsed entirely, wailing on the floor.

Chương 14: Total Collapse

In the corner of the room, my brother Tyler realized the situation was entirely unsalvageable. The playboy who only knew how to squander money was now pale as a sheet. Taking advantage of the focus on our parents, he began to slip toward the dessert table, hoping to escape through the back door.

Daniel spotted him instantly. He didn't look away, pointing his finger directly at Tyler, his voice calm but commanding: "Him too."

An officer moved immediately, blocking Tyler right at the exit. The smug smirk, the arrogant posture he had carried earlier vanished completely, replaced by the frantic panic of a trapped rat.

They began to drag my father up from the floor. He continued to scream my name, his curses echoing through the grand hall. The officers marched him past the magnificent wedding cake, past the white roses he had mocked as "Whitmore money." The relatives who had once enabled his arrogance now lowered their heads, staring at their shoes, not a single one daring to speak or defend him.

Before they pushed him through the doors into the flashing lights of the police cars, Frank looked back at me one last time.

And in that moment, for the first time in twenty-five years, I saw real fear in my father’s eyes. He finally realized his daughter was no longer a lamb to be sheared. She had become a wolf.

I didn't smile. I didn't wave goodbye. I simply let Daniel lift me from the floor, holding me securely in his strong arms.
