Chapter 26 - The First Strike

By Sunday morning, the Vanguard Agency war room was electrified. Daniel had successfully mirrored the entirety of Richard Kensington's private server. Marcus and our team of forensic accountants had spent the entire night decrypting the files, and the picture that emerged was exponentially worse than we had anticipated.

"He is completely insolvent," Marcus announced, standing before the digital whiteboard, pointing to a complex web of offshore transactions. "Kensington Holdings has been operating as a massive Ponzi scheme for the last four years. Richard has been using Juliet’s trust fund to pay off high-interest loans from unregulated private equity firms. He forged her signature on over thirty different equity transfers."

"He liquidated eighty million dollars of his own daughter's money to save his ego," I said, staring at the screen with absolute disgust. "It’s textbook financial violence."

"It gets worse," Daniel added, pulling up a secondary document. "He didn't just steal her money. He took out massive life insurance policies on Juliet, naming his holding company as the sole beneficiary. If anything happened to her, he would stand to gain another fifty million."

The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence. The realization of what Richard was truly capable of hung in the air.

"We need to move immediately," I commanded, my voice cutting through the tension. "Marcus, I want an emergency ex parte motion filed in federal court tomorrow morning. We are going to present this shadow ledger to the judge and request an immediate, total freeze of all Kensington assets. Domestic, international, everything."

"A judge will sign it instantly with this level of proof," Marcus nodded, quickly gathering his files. "But Richard will know we hit him the moment his credit cards decline."

"That is exactly what I want," I smiled coldly. "I want him to panic. I want him to realize that his impenetrable fortress is burning."

On Monday at 9:00 AM, Marcus stood before a federal judge. By 9:15 AM, the order was signed.

At exactly 10:00 AM, the financial guillotine dropped. Every single bank account tied to Richard Kensington was frozen. His corporate access codes were suspended. His lines of credit were instantly revoked. The emperor was violently stripped of his gold.

I sat in my office, watching the live feed of our secure phone lines. At 10:45 AM, the private number for my office rang. The caller ID displayed 'KENSINGTON ESTATE.'

I picked up the receiver, pressing the speaker button. "Vanguard Agency. This is Nora."

"Who the hell are you?!" Richard’s voice roared through the speaker, frantic and dripping with rage. "My banks are telling me some rogue advocacy group just froze my entire network! I will destroy you! I will have you buried!"

"You can certainly try, Richard," I replied calmly. "But it is very hard to dig a grave when you cannot afford a shovel."
