Chapter 37 - The LetterIn the quiet hours of a Sunday morning, she sat at her desk with a pen and a piece of heavy parchment paper.

She wrote a letter to the woman she used to be.

She wrote to the woman who cried on the bathroom floor.

She wrote to the woman who thought she deserved the pain.

She wrote to the woman who stayed because she was too terrified to leave.

"I forgive you."

She wrote the words in bold, sweeping ink.

"I forgive you for thinking you were weak. I forgive you for surviving the only way you knew how. I am here now. And I will never let anyone hurt us again."

She folded the paper into a small square.

She took a lighter from her desk drawer, walked over to a metal tin she used for mixing paints, and lit the edge of the paper.

She watched the flames consume the words, turning the heavy parchment into fragile, gray ash.
