CHAPTER 28 — The Architect
The city moved in its usual, frantic rhythm.
The subway car was crowded, loud, and vibrating with kinetic energy.
She didn't shrink into the corner seat.
She sat tall, her posture relaxed but anchored.
When she walked up the concrete steps and pushed open the heavy glass doors of her studio, the entrance bell chimed.
Heads turned.
Her colleagues didn't see the woman who used to apologize for simply taking up space.
They saw the architect of her own future.
Her stride was different.
Even, measured, and entirely her own.
She walked to the center drafting table and unrolled a massive sheet of blank vellum.
