Outside the door, Corbin felt the floor beneath his feet seem to tilt.
The Harbor Tower was one of Stanford Development’s flagship high-rise projects downtown. It was a fifty-story residential tower that Corbin’s father had overseen personally.
“Ethan was an idealist who didn't understand how the world works,” Sterling snapped, dropping his polite facade. “A delay on that project would have bankrupted the Stanford family! Your husband’s refusal to cooperate threatened thousands of jobs and millions of dollars!”
“So your solution was to kill him?” Lianna sobbed.
“His death was an accident!” Sterling growled. “An tragic, unprovable accident! But if you attempt to use those outdated logs to blackmail the company or bring this to Corbin Stanford, I will personally ensure that Child Protective Services looks into your living conditions. A single mother making eighteen dollars an hour, living in a dilapidated apartment, unable to afford formula? How long do you think you’ll keep custody of baby Austin?”
Corbin’s vision turned red with absolute fury.

He didn't care about the company’s stock price. He didn't care about the Harbor Tower. Hearing his family’s trusted lawyer threaten an innocent mother and child in his family’s name was the final straw.
Corbin raised his foot and kicked the apartment door directly beside the lock.
