Chapter 14 - Unsealing the Past

Her words cut deeper than any physical blade could have. Corbin sat in silence for a long moment, staring at the blue envelope resting on the Formica table.
“You’re right,” Corbin admitted quietly. “I was so focused on profits and projects that I stopped seeing the human beings around me. But that ends tonight.”
He picked up the blue envelope and stood up.
“I am taking these documents,” Corbin said. “Not to destroy them, but to use them. I am going to call an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors tomorrow morning.”
Lianna stood up, panic flashing across her face. “Mr. Stanford, please! Marcus and Sterling are powerful men! If they find out you have those papers, they’ll ruin you too!”
Corbin looked at her, offering a reassuring, determined smile.
“I own fifty-one percent of Stanford Development, Lianna,” he said with absolute conviction. “My father left me controlling interest. They thought they could hide behind the family name, but they forgot that I am the head of this family now.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his private business card, setting it beside the cash.
“Don't come to work tomorrow,” Corbin instructed her gently. “Stay home with Austin. My personal driver will be parked outside your building starting at seven AM to ensure your safety. No one will ever threaten you again.”

Lianna looked at the card, then up at Corbin, tears finally spilling over her lashes—not tears of fear, but of overwhelming relief.
“Thank you, Corbin,” she whispered.
