Chapter 23: The Paramedics Arrive
The wail of sirens shattered the opulent illusion of the estate. Within minutes, paramedics swarmed the foyer, their bright tactical gear a jarring contrast to the tuxedos and evening gowns of the weeping guests. Julian was gently but firmly pushed aside as backboards and neck braces were deployed.
The chaos of the wealthy elite attempting to flee the scene was halted by the swift arrival of the local police. Doors were barred; names were taken. The gala had become a crime scene. Julian stood near the doorway, watching the paramedics load Elara onto the gurney. Her lavender dress was now stained, her face pale as moonlight. He gave a sharp nod to the lead detective, a man he had known for years, pointing directly up the staircase.
"She was pushed," Julian stated, his voice devoid of emotion, operating purely on adrenaline. "The woman in the red dress. She tried to kill her."
