Chapter 15: The Final Stand at the Top

Before the woman in red could slip away into the shadows of the eastern wing, a sharp voice echoed across the marble hall, halting her in her tracks. Several brave guests, emboldened by the impending arrival of the police, blocked the primary exit corridors, refusing to let the aggressor flee the scene of the crime. The illusion of absolute untouchability was crumbling piece by piece.

Trapped and cornered, the woman in red turned back to face the hall, her chin raised in defiant arrogance even as panic flickered in her eyes. She refused to show weakness, glaring down at the crowd with venomous hatred. The man in the grey suit positioned himself beside her, attempting to shield her from the accusing stares of the people they had manipulated for years.

This standoff at the staircase defined the moral climax of the evening. On the floor lay the shattered victim, cradled by unwavering loyalty; at the top stood the unrepentant aggressor, surrounded by closing walls. The stage was set for a dramatic reckoning as the heavy front doors of the estate began to burst open, echoing with the heavy boots of responding officers.
