Chapter 13 - Unraveling the Lie|

Evelyn rushed up the steps, gathering all three children into her arms on the cold stone stairwell.

"You remembered," Evelyn wept softly, kissing Mia's forehead. "You saw it happen."

"Dominic took Mommy down here," Leo spoke, his voice growing stronger with every word. "He told us if we said a word to Daddy, he would put us down here too."

"He scared us," Noah added, burying his face in Evelyn's neck. "He said Daddy would kill us if we talked."

The psychological cruelty struck Evelyn like a physical blow. Dominic hadn't just framed Celeste; he had traumatized her tiny children into absolute silence, forcing them to carry the horror of their mother's murder alone for two long years.

"It's over now," Evelyn promised fiercely, holding them tight. "I have the proof. We're going to tell your father right now."

"Tell me what?"

A cold, sarcastic voice boomed from the top of the stairs.

A heavy flashlight beam blinded Evelyn. Standing at the doorway of the wine cellar was Dominic, holding a suppressed automatic pistol in his gloved hand.

Behind him stood two rogue security guards.

Dominic looked down at Evelyn and the three children, his cruel smile stretching across his face in the dim light.

"I must admit, Evelyn, you're much smarter than I thought," Dominic sneered, slowly descending the steps. "I should have killed you the day you arrived."
