Chapter 12 - "She Didn't Leave"|

The sea cellar was a vast, cavernous bunker carved directly into the ocean cliff beneath the manor. Decades ago, it had been used by early smugglers to haul contraband off ships during high tide.

Evelyn descended a set of slippery stone steps, her flashlight beam cutting through the thick darkness.

At the bottom of the stairs sat an old wooden desk, a steel filing cabinet, and a heavy iron safe.

Evelyn approached the desk. It was covered in a thick layer of dust, but several items lay neatly arranged on the blotter: a leather-bound diary, a stack of passport documents, and an encrypted digital drive.

Evelyn opened the diary. The handwriting inside was elegant and unmistakably feminine.

Celeste Belandi's journal.

Evelyn flipped to the final entry, dated October 14th, two years ago—the exact night Celeste vanished.

“If Adrien is reading this, I am already dead. I discovered what Dominic has been doing. He has been stealing millions from the family shipping accounts and funneling them into his own offshore shell companies in Panama. He knows I found the ledgers. He threatened to hurt the triplets if I spoke to Adrien.

Dominic told me he has set a trap to make it look like I stole twelve million and fled to Europe. He is going to lock me in the old sea vault tonight. If anyone finds this, tell my husband I never stopped loving him. Protect my babies.”

Evelyn gasped, tears springing to her eyes.

"She didn't leave," a quiet, raspy voice echoed from the top of the stone stairs behind her.

Evelyn spun around, her flashlight beam shaking wildly.

Standing on the top step, holding hands in the dark, were the three children.

Mia stepped forward into the flashlight beam, her eyes shining with tears.

"She didn't leave," Mia spoke clearly, her voice vibrating with two years of pent-up truth. "Dominic pushed Mommy."
