Chapter 5 - The Poisoned Ledger

Rosa stood over the desk, tears of pure horror and rage welling in her tired eyes.
She thought of the dozens of sick children whose families relied on that foundation for survival. Children who were currently being turned away from hospital doors because the funding had suddenly dried up—all so Valeria could maintain her extravagant, fake lifestyle.
"She isn't just cruel," Rosa muttered, her hands trembling so violently that the papers rattled. "She's a monster."
Rosa knew the weight of what she held in her hands. If she brought these documents to Don Fernando, it would instantly blow his marriage to pieces. It would unleash a scandal that would rock the city's highest social circles.
More than that, Rosa realized the immense danger she was putting herself in. Valeria was a woman who valued money and status above human life itself.
What if she finds out I know? Rosa thought, a cold shiver running down her spine. She will destroy me.
For a brief moment, self-preservation urged Rosa to throw the papers back into the trash, walk out of the room, and pretend she had seen nothing. She thought of her granddaughter Sofia. She thought of her paycheck.
But then she looked at the printed names of the pediatric patients listed on the notice—children fighting for their lives, denied medicine because of one woman’s greed.
"I cannot stay silent," Rosa declared softly, her jaw tightening with newfound resolve. "Don Fernando deserves the truth. Those innocent children deserve a chance to live."
Rosa folded the incriminating documents carefully and slipped them deep into the front pocket of her thick white apron.

She turned toward the door, intending to walk straight down to Don Fernando’s study and interrupt his meeting.
She didn't know that fate had already set a deadly trap.
