Chapter 15 - Handcuffs and Ruin

The senior officer didn't hesitate for a single second. He pulled a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt and stepped toward the sobbing woman on the floor.
"Valeria Santacruz, you are under arrest for attempted murder," the officer announced sternly. "You have the right to remain silent..."
"Get your hands off me!" Valeria screamed, kicking her legs, her manicured nails raking wildly against the officer’s uniform as he forced her arms behind her back.
The cold metal cuffs snapped shut around her wrists with a sharp, definitive CLICK.
"Fernando! Tell them to stop!" Valeria wailed, her mascara running down her face in dark, ugly streaks. "I'm your wife! Half of everything you own belongs to me! I will sue you for every penny! I'll take this house! I'll take the company!"
Fernando stood above her, looking down at her as if she were a crushed insect.
"You own nothing, Valeria," Fernando said coldly. "Did you really think I was stupid enough to marry a woman like you without a prenup?"
Valeria froze, her eyes widening in terror.
"Our prenuptial agreement explicitly states that in the event of proven marital infidelity or criminal acts committed by either party, all marital rights to assets are entirely forfeited," Fernando informed her, pulling a document from his coat pocket. "My legal team filed the paperwork ten minutes ago. You leave this house with nothing."
"You bastard!" Valeria roared, her voice echoing hysterically as the two officers dragged her toward the front entrance.

She thrashing against their grip, her expensive designer dress ruined, her hair matted, dragging her feet through the very blood she had spilled.
As the police car sped away into the stormy night, her shriek of desperate, ruined rage was swallowed whole by the pouring rain.
