Chapter 6 - The Federal Knock

|

At 6:00 AM, the sun rose gray and cold over Lake Michigan.

In a quiet suburban neighborhood in Naperville, Alderman Thomas Caine was poured a fresh cup of coffee when six black armored SUVs pulled up to his driveway.

Federal agents in blue jackets with gold letters swept up the walkway.

Simultaneously, forty miles north at the Detroit shipping docks, federal marshals slapped yellow seizure notices onto thirty freight containers marked with Paxton Greer’s logistics logo.

In his office on LaSalle Street, U.S. Attorney Richard Sterling stood over his desk, staring at a massive 400-page dossier that had landed in his encrypted inbox at 2:00 AM.

"Who sent this?" Sterling asked his chief assistant, scrolling through flawless bank statements, recorded phone transcripts, and color-coded organizational charts.

"An anonymous source," the assistant replied. "The digital signature on the bottom just says The Accountant."

Sterling let out a low whistle. "This is the tightest RICO case I’ve seen in twenty years. She didn't just give us evidence—she wrote the entire trial strategy."

"Should we issue the arrest warrants?"

Sterling picked up his coat.

"Issue them for Greer, Delgado, Caine, and every lieutenant on that list," Sterling commanded. "And find out who The Accountant is. I want to offer her a job."
