Chapter 17 - The New Boardroom

|

Two weeks later.

The high-rise building on LaSalle Street was crisp, bright, and filled with the clean morning sun.

On the twentieth floor, inside a brand-new, minimalist corner office overlooking the river, Lennox Aldrich sat at a wide glass desk.

On the frosted glass door outside, neat silver lettering read: ALDRICH GLOBAL LOGISTICS & CONSULTING.

Standing across from her desk was Delgado, wearing a neat navy suit, holding a leather folder. He looked rested, relieved, and remarkably younger than he had two weeks ago.

"The federal court approved the restructuring plan this morning, Lennox," Delgado said, placing the signed documents on her desk. "All thirty Detroit dock permits have been transferred to Aldrich Global. The union stewards signed the new labor agreements an hour ago."

Lennox reviewed the documents, her signature sharp and fluid as she signed the bottom line.

"And Paxton?" Lennox asked, without looking up.

"He's in federal custody at Metropolitan Correctional Center," Delgado replied. "His bail was denied. Pendelton resigned as his counsel yesterday after Paxton’s remaining accounts bounced."

Lennox closed the folder and set her pen down.

"Good," she said simply. "Make sure the former South Side drivers get their full back-pay by Friday."
