Chapter 20 - AN UNFINISHED EMPIRE|

The midnight sky over Manhattan was clear and cold as Dominic and Nora stood on the private terrace of their high-rise home.

The city lights stretched out beneath them like a carpet of fallen stars.

Nora leaned her head against Dominic's broad shoulder, her hand resting over his heart, her new diamond band glittering softly under the moon.

"We did it," she whispered softly.

"We did," Dominic agreed, kissing her forehead. "The empire is safe. The family is secure."

Suddenly, a low, rhythmic vibration echoed from the pocket of Dominic's jacket.

He frowned slightly. It was not his primary phone, nor was it his corporate line.

It was a sleek, unlisted satellite communicator that had remained dark and silent for over five years—a device that connected directly to his late father's oldest, most secret global network.

Dominic pulled the phone out.

The screen illuminated in the dark terrace, displaying a single, encrypted text message sent from an untraceable server in Geneva:

LORENZO'S FIRST LEDGER HAS BEEN FOUND. THE WOMAN YOU MARRIED IS NOT WHO YOU THINK SHE IS.

Dominic’s breath hitched. His grip on the phone tightened until his knuckles turned white.

Nora looked up at him, noticing the sudden, terrifying change in his posture.

May you like

"Dominic?" she asked softly, her eyes searching his pale face. "What is it?"

Dominic looked down at her, his silver eyes flashing with a sudden, dark surge of confusion and shock, while the phone in his hand vibrated with a second incoming line.
