Chapter 16 - NO MERCY|

Dominic walked slowly toward Chloe, his heavy boots making slow, rhythmic thuds on the blood-stained Persian rug.
He knelt down beside her chair.
For a fraction of a second, Chloe’s face filled with hope. She leaned her bruised head toward his chest, whimpering softly.
"Oh, Dominic... thank you... thank you..."
Dominic didn't touch her. He reached out and snapped the zip-ties holding her wrists—not to free her, but to slide his mother's platinum-and-emerald transponder off her wrist.
"I didn't come for you, Chloe," Dominic said softly, his voice devoid of anger, left only with cold, empty disgust. "I came for my transponder."
Chloe's eyes widened in horror as the realization hit her. "You... you used me as bait?"
"You used yourself," Nora said, stepping out from the shadows beside Dominic, holding her flashlight steady on Chloe's pale face. "You chose greed over loyalty. And greed always collects its debt."
Chloe stared at Nora, then looked up at Dominic, realizing with absolute certainty that there was no mercy left for her in this world.
"Marco," Dominic commanded as he stood up, taking Nora's hand into his. "Leave her for Agent Vance. Federal agents are five minutes behind us."

"Dominic, no! Don't leave me here! I'll go to prison forever!" Chloe shrieked, clawing at the carpet as they turned their backs on her. "Dominic!"
They stepped out into the pouring rain, leaving her screams behind in the dark, ruined mansion.
