Chapter 8 - The Truth Revealed|

"I hired Mara’s agency twenty years ago to protect my late son," Harold said, his voice echoing across the ballroom. He turned a cold glare toward Vanessa and her stunned parents. "Did you really think I would hire an ordinary maid without checking her background, Vanessa? Naomi isn't our servant. She is the newly appointed Head of Security for Whitmore Holdings."
Vanessa’s jaw dropped. The entire room seemed to hold its breath.
"I placed her in this house on a six-month tactical evaluation to test our family’s vulnerabilities—and to see if my grandson had the spine to choose honor over a corrupt business deal," Harold continued sternly. "Ethan passed tonight."
Harold turned to the three hundred stunned guests. "The party is over. Please escort yourselves out."
As the humiliated elite scrambled toward the coat check, Ethan turned to Naomi, a mixture of shock and amusement on his face.
"Head of Security?" Ethan asked softly.
Naomi adjusted the cuffs of her gray uniform. "The pay is better, and I still know how to brew a proper cup of tea."
"Wait!" Vanessa yelled from the floor, pushing herself up with trembling hands. "You set me up! This whole thing was a trap!"

Naomi turned to look at her, her dark eyes ice-cold. "You set yourself up, Miss Sterling. Cruelty is a very predictable habit."
Before Vanessa could reply, her father, Richard Sterling, grabbed her arm roughly, pulling her away from the staring crowd. "Shut up, Vanessa! You've ruined us enough for one night!"
