Chapter 19 - The War Comes Home|

Twenty-four hours later, Naomi and Ethan were back inside the fortified Whitmore estate in Boston.
Harold sat in the study, his face grave as Naomi explained what happened in Paris.
"It's true," Harold admitted softly, his voice trembling with old guilt. "Ethan’s father made a desperate deal with dangerous international lenders ten years ago to fund our expansion into Europe. I thought he had paid them off before he died."
"They don't want the fifty million, Grandfather," Naomi said, pacing near the fireplace. "They want control of Whitmore Enterprises' European shipping hubs. They used the debt as leverage."
Ethan stood up from his desk, his jaw set. "We don't negotiate with terrorists. Naomi, double the estate’s guard count. Put the company on high alert."
"Doubling guards won't stop them, Ethan," Naomi said, turning to him. "They won't attack the mansion directly. They'll hit you where you're vulnerable—outside these walls."
Ethan walked up to her, holding her hands. "Then what do we do?"

Naomi looked out the window toward the stormy Atlantic ocean.
"We stop running," Naomi said, her eyes burning with fierce determination. "We make them come to us on our terms."
