Chapter 12 - The Mastermind Exposed|

Gunfire echoed in the dark as the mercenary fired blindly. Naomi rolled across the marble floor, popping up behind him and kicking the back of his knee. The man crashed down, and she disarmed him in a single fluid motion, pinning him to the floor with her knee against his spine.

"Who sent you?" Naomi snapped, pressing the warm barrel of her pistol against the back of his neck.

"Go to hell," the man grunted.

Naomi applied pressure to his shoulder joint, making him gasp in pain. "You have three seconds before I dislocate your arm. Who paid for this breach?"

"Sterling!" the mercenary gasped out. "Richard Sterling! He said the Whitmores destroyed his family tonight! He wanted the old man and the heir dead before market open!"

Naomi’s eyes darkened. Richard Sterling was trying to cover his financial ruin by wiping out the Whitmore leadership and causing corporate chaos.

Footsteps rushed down the stairs. Ethan appeared holding an antique iron fireplace poker, his face pale in the dim moonlight.

"Naomi!" Ethan called out. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," Naomi said, tying the mercenary's wrists with zip-ties from his own belt. "Call the Federal Bureau, Ethan. Richard Sterling just signed his own arrest warrant."

Ethan stared at the three unconscious, heavily armed men lying across his foyer floor, then looked at Naomi standing calmly in her rain-soaked maid uniform.

"Remind me never to get on your bad side," Ethan said, letting out a breath he felt he'd been holding all night.
