Chapter 6

The grand ballroom of the estate was filled with the influential elite of New York, all raising their champagne flutes to toast the Elena Vance Foundation. A classical string quartet played softly in the corner, masking the quiet, intense tension radiating from the host.
Julian moved through the crowd with practiced ease, shaking hands and offering charismatic smiles, but his mind was miles away. He continuously checked the secure smartwatch hidden beneath his tuxedo cuff. The stock anomalies were not just a random glitch; they were a coordinated, incredibly expensive financial assault.
Elena caught his eye from across the room. She excused herself from a conversation with a prominent state senator and navigated gracefully through the sea of guests, meeting Julian near the grand mahogany staircase.
"David just messaged me from the cyber division," Julian whispered, leaning close so his lips brushed her ear, appearing to the room as a devoted husband rather than a CEO under siege. "The attack is coming from a shell corporation registered in the Cayman Islands. They are dumping massive blocks of phantom shares to trigger an automated sell-off."
"Can David freeze the routing protocols?" Elena asked, keeping her smile perfectly fixed for the cameras flashing near the entrance.
"He is trying, but the algorithm they are using is adaptive. It’s military-grade financial sabotage," Julian replied, his protective instincts flaring. "I want you to take Clara and Rosa to the safe room upstairs. If someone has the resources to attack the Vanguard-Vance mainframe, I don't trust the physical perimeter of this party."
"No," Elena said firmly, her eyes flashing with absolute resolve. "I am not running to a safe room, Julian. Not anymore. This is our house. This is my foundation’s night."
"Elena, please, I need to know you are safe," Julian pleaded softly.
"I am safe standing right beside you," Elena countered, intertwining her fingers with his. "We promised each other: no more hiding, and no more fighting battles alone. We built this empire together, and we will defend it together."

Julian looked at his wife, overwhelmed by her unbreakable strength. He squeezed her hand tightly, feeling his own anxiety settle into a cold, lethal determination.
"Alright," Julian agreed, his dark eyes scanning the crowded ballroom with a predator's focus. "Then let's find out exactly which one of our guests is holding the knife."
