Chapter 13

|

The press conference was held in the expansive glass atrium of the Vanguard-Vance corporate headquarters in Manhattan. Dozens of reporters, flashing cameras, and bright television lights crowded the room. The atmosphere was charged with aggressive anticipation, the journalists ready to tear into a billionaire’s wife caught in a scandal.

They expected Elena to appear terrified, defensive, or accompanied by a swarm of expensive lawyers.

Instead, Elena walked out to the podium entirely alone, radiating a calm, terrifying authority. She wore a pristine white suit, her posture flawless, her expression absolute steel. She did not bring notes. She simply brought a large, digital projection screen behind her.

"Good afternoon," Elena began, her voice echoing powerfully through the atrium, cutting through the chaotic murmurs. "Over the past twenty-four hours, numerous publications have circulated documents alleging severe financial misconduct within the Elena Vance Foundation."

She pressed a button on a small remote, and the fabricated documents appeared on the massive screen behind her.

"These documents are incredibly sophisticated," Elena continued, making eye contact with the lead financial reporters in the front row. "But they are complete, undeniable forgeries."

The room erupted in shouted questions, but Elena raised her hand, silencing them with pure presence.

She pressed the button again. The screen shifted to display the highly technical metadata analysis Julian’s team had uncovered.

"As you can see, the digital origin of these documents does not trace back to our secure servers in New York," Elena explained, her voice steady and clear. "They trace directly to a private IP address located on a luxury yacht in Palm Beach, Florida. A yacht owned by a venture capitalist named Alexander Sterling."

A collective gasp echoed through the press pool. Elena had just publicly named the shadow operator.

"Mr. Sterling is currently attempting a hostile short-sell of Vanguard-Vance stock," Elena declared fearlessly. "Because he could not defeat my husband in the legitimate financial markets, he has resorted to forging documents to attack a charitable foundation dedicated to maternal healthcare. He is trying to steal medicine from vulnerable mothers to pad his own offshore accounts."

Elena looked directly into the primary television camera, her eyes blazing with absolute sovereignty.

"The foundation’s ledgers are open for total federal review as of this morning. We have nothing to hide," Elena finished powerfully. "But Alexander Sterling does. And I strongly suggest the authorities ask him why he is manufacturing fraud to attack pregnant women. Thank you."

She walked away from the podium, leaving the room in absolute, stunned silence before a chaotic frenzy of furious typing and shouting erupted behind her.
