Chapter 14 - The Shift in Power

Valeria opened her mouth to speak, to hurl another insult, to try and salvage her shattered pride, but she couldn't find a single word. She was utterly destroyed.

Alejandro gestured sharply to the screen.

"Allow me to clarify the documentation for those in the back," Alejandro announced loudly. "Clara Herrera Rivas. Principal Beneficiary of the Rivas-Lu Trust. She holds enough compounded voting shares to immediately claim a controlling seat on the board of directors."

The room erupted into a deafening roar of shocked murmurs.

The woman they had spent all night mocking, the woman whose dress they had laughed at, the woman they deemed entirely worthless, was suddenly holding more financial power than half the executives in the room combined. I was not an intruder in their empire. I owned a massive pillar of it.

Mr. Lu walked slowly toward me, bowing his head in a gesture of profound respect that shocked the crowd even further.

"Clara," he said formally. "From tonight forward, you have the absolute legal right to take your seat on the family council. You have the power to review every decision this corporation makes. You have the power to challenge this very house."
